Here are the sweet sisters from our Ward who fix lunch for all of our Zone Leaders every month on the first Tuesday. From the left are Dorothy Gurney, Carla Hutchinson, Alexandra (daughter of Carla), and Betty Hogg. Alexandra is in kindergarten but had to come with her mom on Tuesday because all 41,000 teachers in British Columbia went on strike for 3 days. They are wonderful to do this for us because if they didn't we would have to do it ourselves. WE LOVE THEM!
March 1st was the first time President and Sister Tilleman have been in the office since he was bitten by a dog and fell and injured his spine on February 3rd. The doctors said that it would take until March 21st until he could get out of the hospital...a modern miracle! As you can see, he still has to wear a neckbrace and has lost about 30 pounds but his spirits are wonderful. He was able to come in for 2 hours that day as we were having transfers and training for the new missionaries. After that he needed to go home and rest. He is still recovering.
The month also started out with 6 missionaries completing their service and being released to return home and start the new adventers of life. The 3 Elders who were released were Elders Whittaker, Reynolds, and Watt. Elder Watt was serving in the North Carolina mission. He is Canadian and his Visa ran out so he came to our mission for 1 transfer (6 weeks). He said our mission was very different from his. In North Carolina most of the people were Christian but here the people he ran into were Atheists.
The 3 sisters being released are Chau, Orme, and Tsang...all Mandarian Chinese speaking missionaries. Sister Orme actually was Mandarin the 1st part of her mission and English speaking the last part. She is from Knoxville Tenn. Sister Chau and Tsang are from Hong Kong. They all plan to return to college.
The last event to close out the first week in March was the Zone Leader Conference. We have 9 Zones in our Mission with 2 Zone Leaders for each one and 2 assistants to the President or AP's. We usually prepare lunch for 30 with the office couples, President, and others dropping in. This and the next picture show them having lunch and taking a break from their training. Sister Lewis and Traxler decorated it under the theme of St. Patirck's day with green everything! (there was even green food coloring in the water!) They have a theme and decorate it differently each month!
This is my bulletin board with various notes, reminders, and momentos. One is the colored cartoon from Elders Coles and Empie illustrating me taking the axe of justice to the tree of wrong doing of the elders (because they were in an accident). I'm not really that cruel...they were doing it as a joke...I think?!
